Going ashore in Port Everglades, USA

Fort Lauderdale is the closest city to Port Everglades and the favourite destination for the seafarers who arrive in the port and want to have a few hour relax time outside.

Walking inside the terminal is prohibited, but seafarers can always count on the Seamen’s club volunteers who offer transport services from the ship to the club and return. The club is situated only 10 minute away from the terminal, still inside the port area, but outside the limited area, where also taxis are allowed to enter.

If you have only 2-3 hours available, you have to limit your visit to the Seamen’s club area. Here you will find free internet access, a small shop, an electronic shop and few other possibilities of spending your time in a very agreeable way.

If you are interested in doing some shopping, you’ll have to go as far as Aventura Shopping Mall – a huge shopping mall situated in the Broward County, ~ half an hour ride from the Seamen’s club (~ 40$).

If your free time allows it, you can venture yourself and visit the city of Fort Lauderdale. The taxi will follow the route towards Beach Place – the best place to start your visit – and will take you there in less than 20 minutes for ~ 20$.

From there you can start your walk around the city, along its most famous boulevard, Beach Boulevard, or you can enjoy a swim in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Following the street back, you can have a walk on the beach or have a snack in one of the open air restaurants which are situated along the boulevard. You can admire the huge and luxurious hotels and private villas scattered along the coast and you can walk your way back towards the end of the Beach Boulevard from where you can take your taxi back (the return trip lasts, in this case, only 10 minutes and costs ~ 10$).
