Going ashore in Livorno, Toscana

Once you find yourself in the port of Livorno and you have a few hours to spend and enjoy, you can embark yourself in a nice journey and try to do a little sightseeing.

To go out of the port, the best solution is to call a taxi. Here, the taxi can come inside the port, so it will be easier for you since you won’t waste too much time on transportation. The taxi will take you from the ship and get you into town in less than 20 minutes, and you’ll only have to pay ~ 20 euros.

If you have only 3-4 hours available, the best solution is to go only to the centre of the town. There you can have a nice walk in Piazza Grande, admiring Il Duomo and doing some shopping or have a stroll along the river and a good dinner at one restaurant, later on.

If you stay in the port for the whole day you can try some other destinations as well and one of the best solution is Pisa, only 25 km away.

Visiting Pisa

If some other people on board are also interested in such a trip, you can plan in advance and hire a small minibus to take you to Pisa and bring you back to the ship.  It can cost you 50-60 Euros and it will get you there in one hour. If you want to save some money, the cheapest and fastest way to go to Pisa is by train. The journey will take half an hour and it will cost only few Euros (return ticket).

If you are lucky enough to stay more hours in the port of Livorno you can push the limits and get as far as Florence. It is only 100 km away and the train will take you there in one hour and 20 minutes for a minimum fare of 9 Euros (return ticket). Once you arrived in the train station Santa Maria Novella of Florence, you will need at least 4 hours to have a rapid tour of the city, paying your respect to the one of the most beautiful Cathedrals of the world – Santa Maria del Fiore, having a stroll in some of the world’s most famous piazzas (Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Piazzale Michelangelo) crossing the River Arno on Ponte Vecchio, admiring some beautiful palaces, gardens and well famous works of art which are scattered around the city. You will not have time to visit museums and galleries of art, but you can enjoy the beautiful city of Firenze which is like an open air museum and you can start making plans for a real holiday in the future.
