Entering Tianjin

Tianjin, formerly known as Tianjin Xingang, is situated on the West side of Bo Hai Gulf, at the entrance to Hai He River. It is the nearest port to Beijing and one of the busiest and most important ports in China. The port is approached from ESE and it is entered through Tianjin Gang Main Channel which is ~21 miles long and 16 -21 m deep.

Tianjin is an artificial harbour constructed upon reclaimed land on the North side of the entrance to Hai He River and it includes four terminals and over 100 commercial berths capable of accommodating vessels with a draft up to 22.5 m.

FICT Terminal – Five Continents international Container Terminal

Here there are 4 berths with an overall length of 1200 m and the vessels usually come port side alongside.

TPCT – Tianjin Port Pacific Container Terminal –is the largest terminal in the port and it can accommodate the largest vessels.

TECT & TACT – Tianjin Port Euroasia International Container terminal & Tianjin Port Alliance International Container Terminal.

During our 4 month voyage, HS Onore called the Port of Tianjin five times – twice in the TECT Terminal and 3 times (due to change of service) in the FICT Terminal.

All the times the vessel came port side alongside and a swing to starboard side was performed upon departure with the help of 2 tugs.

The approaching and departure maneuvers – during the months of March and April – were performed mostly under poor weather conditions and in bad visibility – with a lot of fog and rain.

In May and June, visibility got better and I had the chance of filming both the entrance and departure maneuvers.
